Herbs and Oils for the Spring Equinox

Spring has sprung. It is now a time of new beginnings, of finding your balance, planting seeds, youthful energy, rebirth and the fertility of nature. With that all in mind I thought I'd share some of the many plants and oils associated with this season.
You can use them in your rituals as altar decor, incense, oils, or in your ritual bath as a bath oil, bath bomb or bath salts. You can make a potpourri or room spray with one or some of these ingredients. Anyway, you feel pulled to celebrate the season.

Lavender Body Butter @ Scarlet Moon Creations
Lavender is associated with the element of Air, which also corresponded with the season of Spring even though it doesn't bloom until just before summer. It has calming and sleep aiding therapeutic properties. And so it is great for use during meditation, divination and other intuitive exercises. The color lavender is considered a pastel color and is often used this time of year as are the essential oil to bring peace and harmony to your home. Lavender is also associated with love during this time of year.

Dandelion is of course the herb seen everywhere once spring begins. Many would call it a weed but it has many amazing therapeutic and magickal properties. We all know about wishing with dandelions, this makes them great for setting goals and intentions for the season. The bright yellow blooms also make great additions to your altar or home decor, bringing the refreshing energy of the spring season indoors. They also make great flower crowns and who doesn't love a flower crown?

Tansy is a flower associated with death and rebirth as ancient peoples used it in embalming processes. It is also associated with immortality and eternal youth. Though not blooming at this time of year, you can use dried tansy from when it last grew. Its strong scent last long and is great for potpourri. Tansy's have a long history as a flavoring agent for cakes and other desserts.

Geranium oil is good for balance. Particularly for balancing ones emotions put out of wack due to hormonal issues. So mix up a bath or massage oil to use after a trying day. Due to the many scents the different varieties of geranium can produce that are similar to other flowers, these can easily be used as substitutes in your magickal recipes. Such as rose scented geraniums, these can be used in place of actual roses or rose oil for spell work to bring love into your life.
Black Pepper oil is associated with the element of fire, the planet Mars and therefore the sign of Aries. Black pepper is stimulating and warming to the senses and it literally gets the blood moving by improving circulation. All great for helping your bring in that Aries energy into any workings you do during this time of year. Aries being the first sign of the zodiac and the first sign of spring it is a great energy to get new things started.

These are just a few herbs and oils you can use during this Spring Equinox season. Even though the date has passed the energy is still with us and growing towards Beltane. As always with any of these and other items new to you, test them carefully before going all in especially if you have sensitive skin. Do a spot test on your skin before fully submerging into a bath. Sniff a bit of the item before purchase to make sure you are not allergic or sensitive to it. Read all label warnings because some items are not for women who are pregnant or nursing, or others on certain medications. Safety first always.

And let me know if you decide to use any of these items in the comments below. I'll be back soon with some Beltane suggestions. If you would like to try any of my spring products you can find them in the link below.
